LVR Director - Steve Johnson
|
LVR Executive Director is Steve Johnson, nicknamed “QD”, who is not a new face to LVR. He worked here for four summers during college and has been a board member for the last two years. Before receiving God’s call to work at LVR, he served at Faith Lutheran Church in Woodland Park, CO as the Director of Christian Education for 3 years. The new Program Director is Luke Kunze, AKA “Trigger”. Luke comes to us as a new college graduate from Wausaw, Wisconsin. He has served as a member of the summer staff for LVR for the last four summers and is excited to begin his tenure as year round staff.
LVR Annual Themes
2006:"Always Faithful"

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”
Hebrews 10:23
2005:"Focus"

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
- 2 Corinthians 4.18
2004:“Strong in God’s Armor”
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.”
- Ephesians 6:10
What happens when we surround ourselves with Christ?
He forms around us all a barrier of grace that can flow from us to other people. The summer staff use the activities during the day and apply these experiences not only to the Bible Studies but to their lives as well. The four Bible Studies for the summer will bring the campers to understanding who Jesus Christ is and how we can use him in our daily lives and share him with their friends. By the end of the week the campers will understand how each of us can be “Strong in God’s Armor”.
2003: “Jesus Rocks”
“As you come to him, the living Stone rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
- 1 Peter 2:4-5
2002: “Cling to the Cross”
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that,
while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
- Romans 5:8
2001: “Refuge”
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble
- Psalm 46:1

Dear LVR Staff,
On behalf of Greccio, Housing Unlimited, Inc. and our residents, I would like to extend our sincerest thank you for inviting our resident’s children to participate in day camp. All of the children that went had a wonderful time and had a lot to tell their parents about. Many of these children don’t get to participate in these types of activities because they are financially unable; therefore, programs such as yours are of great benefit to our community. Thank you again for the time and effort that you put into making this a very special day for these children.
Sincerely, Kimberly A. Lee- Director of Resident Services

Dear Lutheran Valley Retreat,
Just a note of thanks for the wonderful job you do with the LVR summer camps! My two girls attended for the first time this summer and they're both planning to return next year. Your facility is well-maintained and the surroundings can’t be beat! We've heard many wonderful things about your counselors. The only thing my girls would have changed was to stay at camp longer! Thanks again.

Research Shows Link Between Christian Camps
And Full Time Ministry
Kevin B, Camp Luther, NE
Jeter Basden, an Associate Professor of Religion and Associat Director of Ministry Guidance at Baylor University in Waco, Texas did a random sampling of the students who applied for the Minisp program at Baylor University in Waco, Texas did a random sampling of the students who applied for the Ministry Scholarship program at Baylor from 1990-1999. He read through the personal testimonies of these students and compiled 18 factors that showed up as influencing factors in their call to ministry.
Out of these 18 factors, “Experience at a Christian Camp was the fourth most commonly cited factor mentioned by 27.2% of the students. The first three factors, in order, were: 1) Private Bible Study and Prayer (43.3%); 2) Volunteer Lay Ministry Experience (38.2%); 3) Growing up under the influence of Christian parents in a Christian home (33.2%).
The research above is described in the April 2001 issue of Youth Ministry Update, published by LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention. The article is entitled “Factors That Influence a Call to Ministry.”
